British and American Mezzo-Soprano – Rachel Labovitch has been described as terrific, sultry, graceful, “owns the stage,” triumphant, and “one who steals the show.” Her voice and classically trained acting background have landed her such roles as Carmen with Vox Viceralis Opera 2019, Dorabella from Cosi Fan Tutte with Mission Opera 2019 and Nicklausse from Tales of Hoffman with Somis Opera 2019.

During the 2017-2018 season she played Romeo from I Capuleti e i Montecchi with Hawkmore Opera, Cherubino from Le Nozze di Figaro with Celestial Opera, Mark Smeton from Anna Bolena – with Opera by the Glass. Prince Orlovsky from Die Fledermaus with Landmark Opera, Polina and Olga from Queen of Spades and Eugine Onegin with Independent Opera Company. She sung the role of Flora from La Traviata twice both with the Independent Opera Company and for Opera Prima Vera at the Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks.

Other previous operatic highlights include Mrs. Herring in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring with the Miami Summer Music Festival, Angel in Anton Rubinstein’s Demon as part of the Russian Opera Workshop, Philadelphia and Karolka in Janacek’s Jenufa with Opera Slavica, NYC.

Rachel has sung in many concerts, galas and oratorios. Recently she was the alto soloist for Bach’s Christmas Oratorio for the Rolling Hills United Methodist Church, alto soloist for Mozart’s Requiem, at Santa Clarita Methodist Church, and she was due to be the alto soloist in Beethoven’s Mass in C Major in 2020 at the Rolling Hills United Methodist church. However, that was canceled due to Covid-19.

In 2021 she won the “audience favorite award” in the Opera En Castellano International singing competition by singing well-known and beloved Zarzuelas.

Rachel is the cantor for Saint Athanasius Episcopal Church in Echo Park, Los Angeles. You can see her perform a different oratorio selection or communion anthem every Sunday.

Rachel’s education includes a BA in Drama at Kingston University, London and an MA in European classical acting at The Drama Center, London. Various singing educational programs include the American Institute of Music, Graz, Austria; Miami Summer Music Festival; and Russian Opera Workshop, Philadelphia.

Rachel hails from Kent, England and currently resides in Los Angeles.
